On Windows, you normally have to open more than one dialog for getting basic information about your computer. Some information is not provided by the standard dialogs. Specialized diagnostic tools often run only with administrative privileges, and the user might be overwhelmed by many technical details, while maybe still not all desired information is provided.
In contrast, BSI is kept deliberately simple, it does not require administrative privileges and summarizes basic system information in one plain dialog. Additionally, it checks whether there is TeamViewer on the system, and thus reminds you that it could be helpful if this program would be available e.g. on a friend's computer, so that next time you can help him/her also remotely.
Installation is not required, just unpack the folder from the ZIP archive. The program is portable, and so runs also e.g. from a USB drive.
BSI does not add entries to the Windows registry, nor does it alter anything else on the system.
Just delete the folder that contains the program.
Command: BSI
The program does not have any command-line parameters. If no language is specified in the INI file, then the program chooses the language for the output automatically: German on german systems, Russian on russian systems, and English on all other systems. If a language is specified for which there is a corresponding .LNG file, then that language will be used.
For terminating the program, click [OK] in the message box. If the Ctrl key is pressed at the same time, then the content of the message box will be saved in a file in the “Data” subdirectory of the program's directory.
If you want the program to continue showing the marketing names of recent Windows 10 versions, then you'll have to maintain the list in the file “bsi.ini” yourself.
You can create a new language file by translating an existing one. The file format is UTF-8 with BOM. To use the new language, enter its name in the INI file. Please also send the language file to <support {AT} luethje {DOT} eu>. The next version of BSI will then support that language automatically. Don't forget to write your name and if you want also your e-mail address as comment at the beginning of the file.
This program is written in PureBasic. Thanks to Fantaisie Software for this good general purpose programming language. Thanks to Stephen Rodriguez for the powerful source code library COMAte plus for Windows. Thanks to davido from the english PureBasic forum, who created the beautiful (i) icon. I would also like to thank all translators.
